Stupid question: My new bed (1983) came with the upper chrome trim on it. Previous owner painted it black.
I want to remove it so I can paint the bed to match the rest of the truck. How's it come off?
Something about an all black Ford truck screams Urban Cowboy. Watched it last week....
That trim doesn't look stock to me. Is there a gap between the trim and body? Is it rubber double sided tape? If so, you can cut it with fishing leader line, working it like a saw, then use Goof-off to get the sticky side off the body.
If there is a slight gap and you can see clips, then I would probably just yank it off, pull the clips, and fill the holes.

Nice bed for being an '83, especially if it came from the Northeast part of the country (I see you are in NH). I have actually removed some of this trim before for someone who needed the passenger side trim. I seem to remember being able to slide it forward or backwards to 'break it loose' from the mounts. I had to 'tap' an end of the trim w/ the rubber coated head of a screw driver to get it going. I was able to remove that upper trim w/o damaging it, but in your case you just want it removed to match the cab, so you could probably be a little more forcefull.
PS. Always liked the look of a red pinstrip on a black truck.

Thanks for the details of removing it. I'll be trying this as soon as I get a solid day off. I was actually hoping to salvage it, in case someone on here needed it. The bed did come from up here. It has some small patches, but 98% is whole!
PS. Love the pinstripe. Matches the interior too!
