F-150, F-250 and F-350 all use the same body parts. cab, fenders and beds are interchangeable.

Shorten a frame and throw a shortbox on it. I've personally never done it but it can't be all that hard to figure out. I have pulled short and long boxes off of 80-86 fords and it don't look all that different.

If it's something I feel strong about that might be my best bet. 250 7.3L zF5 RCSB Id imagine it would be good on fuel ?

Good luck finding/putting a 6.9 in a ranger. The engine would weigh as much as the rest of the damn truck!

Well I guess my option is a 250 RCSB than eh
That why I was comparing weight of the v8 that was the whole Origonal point of the OP
I saw a 460 ranger once thought they might be around the same weight

Now we have decided RCSB 7.3IDI Dual Stacked 2wD zF5 that should not be too hard to find a RCLB just lay and wait till I find one in my price range and was the ZF5 used in 1987 or was that still 6.9 T19 territory ?? I was born in 1987 and in Ontario where I an emissions exept for 87 and older vehicles seems like a marriage for me ! My first diesel was 86 extcab LB love that dang thing. 6.9 with a banks turbo and gear vendor ! Oh ya flat black and chrome trim.

How hard is it to cut like 18 inches put o the frame and how can I possibly make it as strong or stronger than factory after the chops

Really scares me I'll be driving one day and my frame will rattle or shake apart

Yikes !

I forgot about wheel base issues you might run into while using a standard shortbed. I'd take measurements and then decide if you'd rather bob a longbed or move your rear axle forward.

And it was 6.9/T19 in 87. I know the 7.3 came out in 88 and I'm pretty sure the ZF did too.

As far as the frame, measure, cut, add cross member in the rear where your cuts are, and box in where ever you can. You can weld, right?

That might not be completely accurate my fav body style is 87-91 love it but I know the 6.9 was discontinued in 87-88 but I thought u could get a 6.9L with a zf5 in 1987 which would be perfect I'd far prefer the 6.9 over the 7.3 but hey betters are not choosers

there's no replacement for displacement.

the 7.3l has more torque and a bit more hp too.just toss a need release coolant filter on her,and she could outlast a 6.9l easy.
too many fear block worm.it's not even a common occurrence.search all the diesel sites you can.you'll have a hard time finding enough actual reported cavitated 7.3l engines reported in the last 5 yrs lets say,to think you spent your time wisely reading lol.seriously.try it.you'll see.i'v never seen such an uncommon occurrence feared so much from an engine than i have block worm w/ the 7.3l idi.that's good though! keep owners on their toes about preventing it. but preferring the older, smaller, 6.9l over the 7.3l because of its thinner walls is taking it too far imho.it's like people are tossing out all the 250k+ mile 7.3l engines reported by the thousands everywhere and just pretending it's not happening. same thing happens with the E40D,though not as drastic.iv seen an E40D owner call his trans junk, switch to the Zf5 and be happy as can be.when asked the miles,he said over 400k on his auto.dead serious.called a trans that went 400k junk.it was on oil burners back along. well id be junk too after 400k miles lmao.that doesn't mean the trans was no good if it went 400k miles.
you've got to research things very good.some of the things you read on the forums can lead a person to think the 7.3l w/e40d is just about as worthless combo as one could buy lmao.which imho,is dead opposite.

I'm not hating the 7.3L over a 6.9L just 6.9L was my first engine :-) as for a 7.3L there are far more of them here. I just want to avoid emissions but any 87-91 truck with a manual will make me happy. I jut don't want a E40D I'm not a fan of automatics !
