after seeing the article "A 1995 Ford F-250 That’s Anything But Ordinary" in diesel power mag, my creative mind to customize my truck more, has grown. about a day ago i found an ad on craigs list of an axle off of a 2005 f-250. it is a dana 60 complete with hubs and steering links. for the price i def would want it. i have a fabricator friend that said he would give me a hand. im a young guy and im totally new to the chassis of the obs ford. so im going to post a link of the ad and see what you guys think. i would really love to put a solid axle on my truck. my mother said to just sell the truck and get a 4x4 but no way. as my first ever truck i cannot let it go. so i would really love to fix it up.
Looks to be in very good shape. I'd jump all over it. May need to find some coils but not too bad. Your 2wd springs may work but probably will be to short. Also you'll need a 4wd block for the rear axle. I have a couple bookmarks on my PC as I'm wanting to do this as well.
im super excited about it. im planning on holding of on the tranny and t-case. im still trying to decide what tranny is best for the price. i really hope i can get some super duty stock 20 king ranch wheels on here. i know 20 inch wheels wont fit on my current truck height, but the truck is deffenatly a awork in progress
I would also recommend you contact him and ask him for some pictures of the process. I can't seem to find them, but I know I have seen pictures of the whole process he went through to make the swap. There are several guys on PSN that have done this swap. One of them into a Bronco (with a 7.3 PSD) and a couple into trucks.
Buy some axles and save up, make sure they are matching gears.
The problem with the newer axle is its a different bolt pattern.
If I ever find my CC truck, I'll probably run newer axles myself due to being cheaper and easier to find than a matching lug pattern d60 for our years.
It's one of the main reasons I want to do the swap is for the newer technology.
Rear disks is the other.
Just better stopping power without spending money on upgrades or fabrication.
for sure. thats one of the reasons why i want the swap is be upgraded. but the rear axle is going to have to be swapped out too but i dont think its going to be complicated. im thinking its just a bolt in process. but thinks for the replys. ill keep yall posted.
i also need to become a member of psn. on another note, i have a ttb axle and about 2 months ago i installed camber bolts and had it re-aligned. i spent 300 bucks. now my alignment is bad again it pulls to the right pretty bad. its a real pain trying to maintain that axle.
