I am looking to buy a steering assist package for my F-350.
I'll probably end up going with a hydraulic ram of some sort, but I am open to suggestions.
I don't have over sized tires... yet, but i am sick of the slow and weak factory steering.
Anyone have any suggestions? Any ideas would be appreciated.
You must have trouble with the factory set up. Hydro boost or power steering pump comes to mine. I have know trouble with mine. I do have factory tires, but it turns fine.
I honestly wouldn't waste my time adding hydro assist for a stock setup. To do it right it is expensive.
You have to port your steering gear which is $250 bucks if you pay someone or a redhead box. You need hydro lines which cost me 150 bucks. Some type of mount which could be somewhat cheap if you did it yourself or buy one for 3-400 bucks. You have to find the right sized ram 200$. Then you have to set it up properly so the ram bottoms out right when it hits your steering stops. You might as well factor in you getting a new pump since they seem to always go out when you mess with them. They are cheap though 80$. Then to do it right you really need to get the PSC pump and reservoir (5-600$ for the kit). The stock pump isn't that strong on our trucks. When you crack open that cap the fluid is running in as fast as it is going out. You can get by with a reservoir and the stock pump, that is what I have done. Someday the PSC kit is going in.
I would investigate what Bonanza35 said before I went down that road.
Thanks for the info, iv replaced my pump before and its not that its failing again, but instead thatits just not as powerful as i would like it to be. I pull long trailers frequently over all type of terrain and often am cranking on the wheel back and forth while trying to back up the trailer into a slot and it gets tiringeventually.
I was just wondering what would be best just to make the steering easier both on and off road.
