E4OD compatability
Greetings, FTE. I tried a version of this question in the transmission forum and received no response. I have a '96 E350, 7.5L, 2wd, dually, 253,000 miles, and 150,000 miles since the E4OD was rebuilt by my local Ford shop. My E4OD has lost 2nd gear. I want to continue driving this truck while I find a rebuildable core and have it rebuilt. That will allow me to continue using this truck for work, and swap the trannies on a weekend. What E4OD years are compatable with my '96? I have been told there were some plug changes that occured in '95, and maybe again in '96. If so, can then be changed? Thanks. Kirt

You want to stick to the 95+, there were several changes from the earlier models and the plugs will fit. Somewhere in there they moved the diodes from the solenoid pack to the computer, or moved from computer to solenoid pack (I can't remember for sure right now)
What I'm rambling on about here is will be MUCH simpler to stay 95+.... If you can find one... If you have to go with an earlier model make sure the trans shop gets all the updates done....

You could swap your solenoid pack onto an older version, but I would also suggest to stay with a 1995 or newer.
