Weight for Winter Traction
BIG: Yeah -- same question I had -- what happens when you toss the bottle jack intot he back or drop in a couple of picks and mattocks. But might do well for the suburbanite with little storage available. I think that if I had a garage available I would go with the 500lb steel plate and set up eye bolts to lift the plate straight up and store it hanging from the rafters... great possibilities for a 'burglar surprise' if I were to be gone for extended periods! I suppose that wouldn't be very kind, so some other method of storage would be apropriate/safe.
A local girl here showed me her rig -- she has a driveway/parking area and dog kennel that all need additional replacement gravel on occasion, so she built a sturdy woodframe about 6 - 8" deep between the whell wells forward, with a hinged lid, hasp and keeps it filled with gravel which she periodically empties where needed and then refills. I would guess she is carrying 400+ pounds from the way her F350 DRW sits. Since I have the same gravel needs she does, I might go that way myself. Any contractors who can guess on the weight added by such a setup with 1/4" quartz gravel from mine tailings?
