hi guys are theire differences in the 4.6 engines used in the heritage body style than the ones use in 2004 to 2008 models or are they all pretty well the same?
Not sure but the early 4.6 were 2 value but I thought the PI ones were 3 valve but don't when they started installing them. Don't take that as absolute fact though.
I think you would do well to do an Internet search. The 3 valve 4.6 was not available until about 2009 or 2010 in pickups. Before that, all were 2 valve, but there were Windsor and Romeo engines (most pickups had the Windsors), and PI (power improved) versions, which came about maybe 1999 for the Windsor and 2001 for the Romeo.
The Romeos were most often used in vans and cars; some were aluminum blocks that were used in Explorers and some Expeditions.
So depending on what your question is, the answer is either "yes, they are the same engine" pre and after 2004 but there are many other diffs among even the 2 valve 4.6's. The 5.4 in the pickups went to 3 valve in 2004, but the 4.6 remained the 2 valve engine.
