Well when the cost of steel goes up (meaning china pays the US more $ per lb we ship that direction, that intern makes JY/scrap places pays more per lb. And that makes people, especially ones outa work do all sorts of crazy things like scrap a Ford truck.
And folks are fixing up there old Ford trucks to drive instead of buying a new one. There are parts out there you just need to hit the brush/sticks and local JY/Craigslist for a complete parts truck, blown motor/trans makes them cheap.
Take what you need, sell some more parts here on FTE and then scrap the rest.
Are you a member of the Arkansas FTE chapter? Get to looking and asking for parts in your state or your close neighbor like Missouri. Hint Hint......
The most frustrating thing, out here west coast way, is pick & pull's way of handling pickup trucks. For some reason, ease of movement, they destroy pickup beds. Doesn't matter how rare or new; crushed by the forklift!
I was at the Pick and Pull in Redmond Oregon a couple of weeks ago, and there were 6-7 dent side trucks and one was a super cab truck with a lot of good parts there.
My the last parts truck I bought was a 76 2wd and it cost me $600. luckly I have 3 dent sides so I used most of the parts & the rest of the good stuff is on my shelf now. only thing left of it was the frame when I sent it to the scrap yard but now. every time I go to the local PNP I 'll see a truck or 2 that I've tried to buy sitting in their.
Parts are getting hard to come by because of very high metal prices... I took in a 91 F-150 and a 94 Honda (Filled Honda up with ALOT of scrap iron) last week and scrapped em
Good chunk of change for a lil bit of work. There still some of 73-79 Fords out there just gotta find em and hope they have parts
Tilt steering for a standard transmission is even harder.....
I did hear of one hideing in a local JY. I plan on going to check and see if it's still their tomorrow not that I need it but figured it was a oddball.
for good used rust free parts try riff http://classicfordtrucks.shutterfly.com/ he parts out all years of ford trucks has stock piles of parts at more than fair prices tell him Jason sent you
their's a guy in Lincoln, NE that's been hitting all the JY's grabbing every one he can at $50 a pop then turn's around and sell's them on ebay for like $200 apiece. I had to drive a 70 mile's south to find one for my 76.
