I just got this 2002 Ford Escape XLT w/3.0L V-6 w/117K
It started running rough (like a misfire). Strange as it is, I ran a scan and have NO CODES. It seems if I unplug COP #5 it makes no difference in performance. I checked & I am getting spark. Pulled the COP #5, and set up a Spark Plug jig, and I am seeing spark. I changed the Fuel Injector to #5 and no difference.
I have a feeling it is something mechanical as opposed to electrical, but don't know where to look.
What is baffling me, is that I am getting no codes. Seems like something should rear it's ugly head.
Thanks for the update. It seems like there should have been a misfire code or codes?
May I ask what catalytic converter you installed & the approximate cost? Thanks.
I think the reason for the "no codes" is due to the issue being on the secondary side of the ignition coil(s). The PCM was doing it's job and the primary side was OK, just the arching on the secondary side was the culprit.
I ordered from my local NAPA store, a Walker converter and the cost was about $230.00 plus sales tax.
