fuel pump problem?

I have a 1990 Bronco 351w. The other day while driving to the store the thing just shut down. I have all acc. power but when I try to start it just cranks and doesn't start. The audible whirring sound from the recently replaced fuel pump isn't there but does make the clicking noise when it is shutting back off. I replaced the fp relay and still no noise. Does this sound like a wiring problem? Oh- I also replaced the module on the distributor

fuel pump problem?

I was driving it pretty hard down some muddy trails the night before and it was running great. The shutdown happened the next day after driving 2 minutes down a city street. I just spliced the wires together and the same results. No fuel pump hum. only a clicking noise after about 2 seconds. I guess I should buy an electrical current tester.

fuel pump problem?

Are you geting any fuel when you are crankin it over? If you are then your guess is as good as mine... But to me it sounds like your fuel pump is stuck.... Take it off and play with it make sure it spins freely, if you want.... replace it and see if that helps any... Just my opinion, I hate to replace things that dont need replaceing just to figure out it is somthing else....

fuel pump problem?

If you have voltage to the new relay but nothing coming out, maybe a ground problem at the pump? Just a wild guess...

fuel pump problem?

I had this same exact problem with my 89 302 and it happened to be the ECC Power Relay next to the Fuel Pump Relay. My connecting harness to the relay also had a faulty wire so I replaced it as well. I got my parts at FORD for less than $40.00 I didn't think that this was too bad for OEM. I would try to grab the EEC wiring and wiggle it with the key on in Run and se if it will activate the pump.

Maybe this will help you out.

fuel pump problem?

Thank you to everyone that has replied. Found the problem with my Haynes manual and a test light. No power to eec relay. The eec power wire from the starter relay was broken just before the fuse link. The plastic was still there so nothing looked wrong, but the wire was broken on the inside.

This may help someone - If you have power TO the Fuel Pump Relay but no power FROM the fuel pump relay........ check the power TO the EEC relay.

THANK YOU AGAIN FOR ALL OF YOUR HELP!
