Quick SBF Into a '48-'52 Oil Pan Question

So my plan is to temporarily toss a '65 289 with a front sump oil pan into my F-2 to make the Docstock trip. I was looking around under the truck and it occured to me that this could place the sump directly over the axle. Anybody successfully run a front sump pan without axle interference issues? I have other dual sump and rear sump pans that I could put on it, but then I'm going to have dipstick problems - and I really don't have the time or desire to be swapping pans if it isn't necessary. If it matters, I'll be using the common tubular CPP engine mount.

I think it will work. My 50 F1 had an old 302 with a front sump with some tubular mounts when I bought it. Honestly, I dont remember the exact clearance or how it exactly looked, but I had no problems with it.

Thanks, Shane! I thought I'd heard of front sump pans being used successfully before, but couldn't remember for sure. The permanent engine will have a rear sump pan, but I really want to be able to dump this temporary engine in it as-is because it runs fine and it's never been opened up. 1000 miles. Just got to make it 1000 miles.

In my first F1 build many years ago, I had the same 289 with the front sump pan installed over the stock suspension. It worked fine, but the engine was set up high enough to not be a problem. I don't know the relation of the engine to axle with the CPP crossmember you're considering, so that will ultimately be the deciding factor. Bottom line is, it can be done with the right setup.

Yeah, I'm sure the setup will end up being the key. What's going to complicate this even further is that I'm hoping to have the front axle replaced with a Dana 44 before then. The springs will be stock and the axle should exist in the same plane as the stocker, but I don't know where the differential case is going to want to be. Hopefully far enough outboard to not cause a problem, but my luck doesn't work that way.

LOL. I have faith in you man! It is funny that we can putz around at home possibly 200 or 300 miles in one day, but when we consider driving like that in a straight line away from home, it gets our attention!

Glad you are planning to come.
