I've owned a 97 F250 PSD for quite a few years now and never been able to get any scan tools to read codes on this truck. One tool I used will kill the engine when trying to pull codes. How do I diagnose the port for voltage etc. before buying the computer based scan tool that folks recommend on this site. It seems I read a post here not to long ago about there being a list of things to check to make sure the port is working properly. Where should I begin? I do have power at the port as it will power up scan tools when they are plugged in, but that is as far as it gets.
What scan tool are you useing? You need one that will read obs powerstroke diesel. There is a thread on this down the page a bit bout what ones will work.
I haven heard of anyone useing one of those on our trucks so i dont think it will work. There prob isnt any thing wrong with your port just useing the wrong kind of scanner.
I have tried using the Actron Auto Scanner Plus CP 9180 and have tried using the Launch Creader V. They have not worked thus far.
I know the actron will not work I tried all it did was kill the truck as you stated and say no codes... Plug ina snap on reader pulls them right up. Looking into getting AE my self
