Quiitr a bit of info here, but it maybe a little confusing. I tried an Actron that was supposed to read everything after 96 - no luck. So after reading the forum, I rented an Ezread 2000 (Autoexray i think) also supposed to read evrything after 96. ALl messages and scans said "not supported". Only thing I haven't tried is the 3100 model listed here - folks say it will work but it says obdII and all others I've tried that said that wouldn't work.....
The local diesel shop read it and said it had 4 or 5 codes and the IDM was bad. I'm not gonna fix it......
I bought an OBDII tester from this web site. It's specifically for 7.3 PSD.
I use it and works great. $150.00. http://www.ghg.net/dharrison/obdscan.html
I bought a used laptop for another $150 and now I'm portable!!
I'm still playing with it, But on one diagnostics screen it shows the span width of the injector. The time it actually is open. Is that what you were refering too?

I have found the best aftermarket ford compatible scan tool for all of us to afford is made by DiaTek. You can go to there web site. It is a scan tool designed to work with a PDA and is the closest thing I have seen to an NGS or WDS ford specific tool.Last I saw a combo with PDA and tool for 699.00. It does all the same things as a ford tool including injector buzz and active commands. I got to use one at a ford training center where their techs train. I was able to scan a 2004 ford mustang and crown vic. There wasn't any strokes there to try. It even is CAN capable which is the newest protocol.

The 1997 Powerstroke was not OBD-II so our toll will not work with it.
