Here is a link to two of the prepump filters I have used. I've run the CAT filter for a few thousand miles now with no problems...I ran the WIX for many thousands of miles with no problems.
This is the filter I've run for a long time on two trucks, think I got them at O'reilly. I like them but I've convinced myself that Murphy is going to step in and something is going to ricochet around just right and break the glass. And now that I said it, it will probably happen tomorrow. Think I'll put a piece of that foam PVC pipe insulation on them in the morning.
The one Robin put in looks like a simple cut cut install clamp clamp and done. Is that it or more to it than it looks like
Mine and Robin's are equivalent. As i have stated before, the wix 33007 is a diesel fuel filter (available at Oreillys, etc).
I have owned several mercedes which use these filters but i may have gotten the idea from Robin to use them on my truck.
I reduced my 3/8 line to 5/16 just before the filter to ensure a good fit to the filter.
Mines' based off SpringerPop's creation. I ordered my filters and filter base from fleetfilter.com..(cant beat the price). To mount the base, got a 3x4 .063 angle metal, and used the 2-holes on frame to mount..(no hole drilling in frame). Plumbed all up, and been great for 30k+ miles. Change mine out every 15k...will post # of filter later...#3121. Gonna post pics, but batteries dead..
