Mine was a 12 point head so you'll need to use a 12 point socket to fit. It's been a while since I took it off but as I recall, it was either 3/8" or 7/16".
i know you told me not to open the power steering box. too many beer last week end, and a shot of Duh!!!,, i open the damn thing, and i had to pay 399.... to get it rebuilt. only to find out, the 1978 F350 is about 2 inch longer then the standard one on my 1978 F100. (on the side of the rag joint) do you know if there is an adjustment on the column, to compensate for that.

That picture just looks all wrong... your steering box is on the wrong side of the bay :P

I'm assuming you are trying to swap a manual gear for power? If so, the column is shorter for PS, to compensate for the longer gearbox.
