Good luck.
Ok, so I thought I knew, but they keep changing things, and I kept getting different answers, even from LEO's in NM, so I came here. But I also rechecked the NM laws. I can if it's in the car but it has to be on a Thursday, when it's a windy and cloudy day, and I'm drinking a Dr Pepper, traveling north.

See? Now you're beginning to understand the complexities of government!

See? You had the answers all along!
Dr Pepper is huge in your part of the world yes Michelle? Probably like Coke & Pepsi here in the midwest!

That's why one needs to be very familiar with local laws. In Florida you must have a Diet Dr. Pepper, and anyone traveling North is automatically suspicious (though they're usually allowed to leave the state unmolested).
Florida recent passed a law making it legal to have a weapon in your vehicle when the vehicle was on state property (i.e. state parking lot, etc.) as long as it was "secure". All that did was convert the thousands of local rednecks that carry a pistol under the seat from criminals to legal citizens. I don't believe that you can legally have a weapon on "school property" though unless you're a LEO or have a special permit.
That doesn't answer your question, but it does highlight how the rules vary so much from place to place. Even just "across the street".
I know I live in a unique little piece of Gods Chosen country but when my best friend was in high school everyone had thier rifle in the truck. Sometimes the School deputy would go out and ask someone to juts take it outta the window rack and put it behind the seat. Knives were banned but never enforced. If a shooter came up in that school he woulda been dead quick as ****. Country folks dont play around when it comes to protectin each other.
Well, I'll tell ya ... there are just so many if, ands and buts that I'm wondering where the the meaning of freedom comes in.... especially when you exist in two states that have totally different rules. Just going from point A to B I'm putting it on, taking it off, loading it, unloading it, showing it, concealing it, laying it on the seat of my car, hiding it in the trunk, plus trying to remember if it's coke or Dr Pepper that I'm supposed to be drinking .... it's as if they are tying to make it so difficult that you won't want to pack one. Pretty sneaky.
from my ccw class, it is a federal offense to posses a firearm within 1,000 foot of a public education facility.
from a friend who is the principle of a local school I can take my gun on campus if she asks me to bring it!
so which law is right?
As I said ... it's all very confusing. I read the NM rules and it says I can have it in my car. I'll check again next week to see if it says the same thing.
