Manual hubs

I am sure it has been discussed in many ways and many fashions, BUT you guys (and gals) have given some great help thus far. That said:
warn (premium or standard)
Superwinch
MileMarker
etc.

Please explain your preferences and what has led you to that thought process. I am eager to pull your knowledge then make my selection. Kind of using you I know but I would rather learn from your trails than my cash.

PLEASE don't just choose Warn because of their marketing. I know there is a reason they are preferred and considered the best. That said...

I won't advocate Warn simply because I like the Mile-Markers better. Why? They were the first to be available in an all-metal assembly. Warn used that plastic actuator dial for years even in their so-called "premium" hubs which was susceptible to fading, and vitrification from exposure to the elements and oils over time. As I understand it, Warn now makes a hub with a metal actuator so the point is moot.

None of the trucks I've had with the Mile-Marker hubs in them have ever dealt me any issues with engagement or sticking mechanisms. I cannot say the same for Warn. But as with any product, ones experiences with them determines the opinion held.

Ok so in you driving woes thread i posted a link but i will put it here too.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post11243835
That is a link to Encho's manual hub swap, i don't know if it will be the same on a 96 as his 93 but it is worth a look.

As for the brand, i have Warns on my 78, i don't know anything about them and i am sure they work fine and turn lock to unlock fine but since i know nothing they could be broke internally and i wouldn't know. Mine do happen to be the metal turn dial thing and they are faded still. The only think i can say is that they lock my wheels in and other than my own errors that seem to do what their supposed to do.

i buy the cheap warn hubs and look for spares at the wrecking yard. I go with these since running the ttb i would rather break a hub and replace that out in the field then an axle on the TTB due to a blown ujoint.

I like the thought process of keeping the weak link in the hubs and not the u-joints on the shaft...

I have Superwinch hubs on my Bronco. Love them, never had any issues so I keep em.

For what its worth we use Mile Marker winches on the Army Humvees and they go years without any real use but when called upon they work flawlessly. Mile Marker= Quality in my book.

I have Warn on mine and they have never given me any problems. I don't actually know if they are premiums or standard but they have the plastic dial so they may be standard. They work great for all I know so for whatever that's worth!

Ok guys I am in a pickle right now. Need some help.

First, I went to junkyard and scored 4 rs5000 and 2 RS 9000 for the bronco. well 1 9000 the other will be mine in the morning. Also found on with about 2" blocks under rear springs and coils on the front so it has to be a 2" lift that will also be mine.

Now, found Warn hubs (6 allen head bolts) got the snap ring and another keeper ring off and the damn hub would NOT release. Checked 3 more hubs and found same problem. I can move the axle i9n and out of it a quarter inch or so so it is not frozen on the axle. what is holding it on!!!! AND will I need a conversion to fit my Bronco (it is auto hubs with three bolts). the warn ones from the junkyard bolt into a piece that is inside the hub so I am hoping it will fit.

Any comments about the lift I am planning. I am a real budget kinda guy.

Also scored a drvr window motor from a 88 bronco. will it fit my 96. if not any one know other models in cars or trucks that will fit.

Lots of questions I know but you cat daddys have not let me down yet....please do not start now.

Rhett
Building it NOT buying it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well the only thing i can comment on is the lift. Make sure you buy NEW ubolts for the back, i don't know about coil blocks though so i can't comment much there. Also even though it is only 2" you might still catch some fire your way about it, not too many people are fond of blocks, they aren't the best lift options BUT being that they are only 2" it shouldn't be much issue.

I don't know about the other stuff so i can't help there.

Closer inspection revels that the rear blocks at the junkyard appear as the same size as whats under mine from the factory so it AINT a lift. The shacks are clearly longer than stock so I really dont get it.

Think I discovered I may have missed the snap ring on the inside of the outer part of the hub. Spring about 3: in diameter.

Feeling pretty silly right now!!!

Pricing lift5s now.

Suggestions??? want a smooth ride not ROUGH!!!

Warn actually makes a hub "fuse" for their equipment. It basically provides and "weak link" in the drive line that is intended to fail in the event of a situation that would otherwise break axles or u-joints.

Tuff Country pre-scrags all their springs to avoid sag over time. I don't know how many others do this but sagging older springs are a common complaint among lifted-truck owners. Tuff Country also provides additional alignment functionality that NO other lift manufacturer brings to the table. Now, some folks might dismiss this but anyone with a lifted TTB front axle truck should pay closer attention to this detail when considering the lift equipment they purchase. Just some food for thought when considering your options. DO NOT use Tuff Country's shocks. Seek out Bilsteins or something of that quality.

Is the "performance lift" from Tuff Country really worth the extra $500.00?

When i was looking at doing a lift I had considered some of Rough country's stuff. But the coils that really stood out for me were the SuperFlex Deaver 6" coils off JBG (Jeffs bronco graveyard) and their pretty cheap, i heard they have a lot of travel and with the correct shocks provide a smooth softer ride. Though this isn't a full kit, it is JUST springs...

EDIT: Also in the rear, i don't know about other peoples opinion but i think going with a shackle flip and maybe some Add A Leafs would do some good. I don't think some people agree though so it is really up to you.
