Fellas,
First I want to say god bless the FTE and it's members. This site is very helpful!
Now to the fun. Who has used tuning on these engines??? I see innovative and Spartan have tunes. Does anyone have any experience with these? Any straight exhaust? DPF deletes? Cold air intake? EGR deletes? Just curious, I am ready to play!
I am interested in tuning, but assume removing emission control items is a must. Has anyone done this? Look- i am aware of warranty and legal issues, save those for another thread. I am interested in making this a reliable BEAST.
You will need to delete the DPF/DOC. Tuning will also allow you to turn the urea off. Mileage isnt going to increase deleted like it did with the 6.4's. These trucks are peaking around 5-520hp with tuning. Biggest problems so far have been the turbos not being able to be pushed hard and a few trucks that made it to the 550 range are throwing rods. They are puny. Other than that, have fun!
that being said, most of us are not getting 6.7s to tune them, but because they are so amazing "factory tuned" by Ford Engineers, who have everything at stake, vs some aftermarket company with nothing at stake regarding your truck
Agreed with the above post. If I had a 6.7, I would only tune it so I could shut all the emissions stuff down. I would leave the power levels at stock. 6.4s are still the kings at making power for a Power Stroke platform and will be for the foreseeable future till the aftermarket can supply the 6.7 with more fuel and air and possibly stronger rods. As for a bone stock pickup, the 6.7s rule.
Stupid loud exhaust and crazy fast are 2 very valid reasons to call H&S and by a minimaxx. You can shut off the TPMS, adjust for larger tires, tune the tranny so it's not in 6th gear at 38 mph, delete the EGR (which does horrible things to your engine), delete the urea so you no longer have to buy DEF, the list goes on and on.
I tuned mine at my first oil change (4500 miles) and have been having a blast ever since. Complete different truck that's stupid fun to drive. 500 hp and 1100 ft lbs at the rear wheels will bring a smile to your face, every time you step on the throttle.
There have been a couple blown turbos, but there's been more reported blown turbos on stock trucks vs tuned trucks. A 6.7 with a compound setup did grenade after bending some rods, but that was pushing 600 hp. Around 500 hp is max for the tuners that are out right now, you should be fine.

Yep, just ask me, I get spanked by tuned 6.4's all the time
The nearly 100 hp and over 250 ft.lb. the 6.4 makes is definately noticable on the street. That said, I am very happy with my H&S tuned 6.7. I have been tuned since Dec 2010 with no issues. Even when the aftermarket catches up I doubt I will take it any further.
I picked H&S over Spartan basically by coin toss. I wish more people had spartan tuned 6.7's so we could get more feedback......
Reason I tuned mine so early is that they COULD NOT get my CEL off and I needed to get my truck out of the shop and on the road. Not a single issue since. I definately am not looking back.
Fellas, thanks for the input. Back in 6.0 land SCT seemed to dominate the tuning playing field. It seems that H&S is dominating the 6.7, is SCT dropping the ball?
