Hi, this past weekend, I had the pleasure of driving my 47 pickup truck from here in GA, to the F100 Supernationals, in Pigeon Forge, TN. I've only had it 2-3 weeks now, got it from my dad, and I've smelled some gas fumes inside several times after its sat closed up for any amount of time, but thought it was the carb, since I looked at the tank, and it seemed to be dry. Well, on the trip up, I stopped and filled it up with gas, where I normally run it at about 1/2 tank. The fumes were overwhelming, even with both windows down and the cowl vent opened. We finally stopped and raised the seat again, and since the tank was actually full this time, the area on top of the tank around the sending unit was damp. This is where the fumes had been coming from before also, but was never full enough to make it wet. Does anyone know of a place to get a sending unit to tank gasket, or should I use some oil & fuel resistant Permatex to try and seal it? Any help or links especially, will be appreciated!
Thanks a bunch for the link!! Looks like exactly what I need. Yeah, I have been reading about relocating mine as well, but right now, I just HAVE TO get rid of the fumes in the cab.
my 47 merc tank is too bad to use, so put a 10 gallon marine tank in the box,run the hose thru a stock hole in bottom..hope to find a new tank someday.
