'56 F100 gas smell, in cab tank?

Did the smell occur after filling the tank full? When the tank is topped off, the cork gasket between the sending unit and tank will saturate with fuel, causing a fuel smell in the cab. The same will also occur throughout the day, if the tank is nearly full, as the fuel expands with the rising temperature. The fix...don't fill the tank to the filler neck rim or replace the cork gasket with the newer rubber replacement.

Thanks for the input, the fuel sender is dry with the tank full or low...still smells.(has a new neoprene gasket) The bottom of the tank is clean and dry, this is a New Mexico truck, no rust.
I have put a Hagan's gas door on the cab and it has a cap that has an "o" ring seal and one of those flap doors that don't need the cap removed to fill the tank.
I would like to ad pics to my post but the rules indicate that I my not.
Well, thanks again and if anyone thinks of something i will appreciate it, Buford
