1999 f350 auto 2wd 7.3 all stock.steep 40yd driveway to reverse up.had rebuilt trans w/tc put in 15 months/20k ago.pulled 33ft 5th wheel camper most of that.got new 39ft camper 2 weeks ago pulled 2 times, and trans fluid came up COOKED. had it flushed, drove 2 miles and flashing light again, fluid cooked again.high temp and failure to upshift codes. installed new hd tc, updated to radiator with trans fluid cooler, flushed everything.drove 100 miles everything fine, hooked to camper and made it 30 miles before flashing light. still drives fine. any ideas besides obvious trans rebuild, again?
Sorry, dont recall the name of the piece, but there is a check valve I have heard of others replacing, it would make sense with the trans overheating so quickly.
Now, if you have checked to see that this discription fits your truck, here is the test procedure that Brian gave me:
1. Recruit a helper to sit in the truck and be prepared to start the engine in park.
2 Find a wide mouth plastic bottle 1 quart or larger. A 2 qt milk bottle is perfect.
3 With the truck engine off, unscrew the return line fitting at the rear of the transmission and poke the line into the mouth of the bottle.
4. Have the helper start the engine, run it for 2 to 3 seconds and shut it off.
5. You should get oil pumped out of the return line into the bottle; maybe 1to 3 cups. You should NOT get any oil out of the hole where you unscrewed the return line.
6. If this all works ok, your bypass is working and the coolers are passing fluid through them. If it doesn't work, call Brian at BTS and get advice. Maybe your local tranny shop could help.
Good luck

By the way, does your 40 yards have an incline?
I have no real answer for you on this, I do know burping upi fluid in revears is not the hard to do. And shortly after I did, I had to replace my tranny. I hope you do not have that problem.
You could look up a memeber here, Mark Kovolsky, a Ford trans engineer. To me, seems to the best place to ask your questions.
thanks pat. i had completely forgot about the bypass and valve.yes decent incline to the drive so it is backing up hill.it's my father in laws truck and he is bringing it back over thursday to add 6.0 cooler and i will check bypass.he is an original michiganer that you're helping. thanks again
