hey im new the forum
i have a e99 f250 7.3 power stroke with an auto trans i have a few mods: a straight pipe 6637 filter and a sct programer 8 inch lift and 38 inch tires
today was driving on the beach in soft sand for about an hour and some thing didnt feel right so i get out and look under the truck and in the front of the tranny by the flywheel and its pouring out tranny fluid and it has been doing it for awhile because the trail of oil was longer then i could see. so to get it off the beach i let it cool for like 2 hours then just tried to drive it off for 2 miles because other wise i was stranded. it went about a half a mile then was completely out of fluid and the tranny wouldnt engage so i waited for someone to come and help the guy tht helped he couldnt get me rolling so i put some motoroil in the tranny just so it would engage so we could get it rolling and it did so we got it off the beach and then had my brother tow me like ten miles back to my shop.
so i guess i over heated my tranny and it blow a front seal i think. but do u guys think tht if i fix the seal or whatever the tranny will be ok or does it need to be rebuilt im good with tools but not sure about trannys so what are my options by the way the tranny was getting weak any way it was shifting rough before this happened i have 240k on the truck
Well, I did almost the same thing. Was towing a trailer. But mine didn't dump fuild till I stopped to help someone else out. I let it set, put in three quarts of trans fuild, drove it and parked on the beach for three days. Drove it home 200miles, then changed all fuild and it was good for one year. If you put motor oil in your trans, I bet it trashed. I didn't have to change the front seal, I think it just leaks there when over heated. I only had 100K on mine then. These convertors don't lock up at slow speeds with your stock tuning, so it will always heat up.
You overheated the front TC seal - pure and simple. It's a common occurrence with these trucks and trans combination. You may get away with it sealing back up fine after cooling down. But if you stress it again doing the same thing it will probably leak again. There is an upgraded seal that you can install but you will have to drop the tranny to do so.
So should i try to flush the tranny out and put new fluid and run it or will i be waisting my time
Or just rebuild it or something .. If i rebuild it what are my options i cant afford a bts or anything. But this is my daily driver and i need it on the road quickly
Im in long island newyork if any of u new of a real good 4r100 shop
If you ran the trans that low that it quit pulling, you most likely have smoked clutches. It may still go for a short while, after a flush with the proper fluid, but the damage is irreversible. Time to rebuild or replace.
