steve yes it sounds just like a fuel knock of a 6.9ldiesel.icut the filter open and no metal inside.can you explain this knock?is this related to the injectors?you know of all of the gas engines i have heard this one has them all beat.
When I changed the oil in mine 300 six, it rattled till it filled the oil filter. For about 500 miles after that it will have th same marbles noise you are describing. I have no idea what it is. But my friends started doing the same thing at 85,000 miles and now he has 178,000. I know that the noise mine is making while it fills the filter is the main bearings. I dont know if I should change them or what. What does anybody else think?
I have same problem with my 94 E150 5.0/ 121,000. I swear that I'm driving a diesal at times. What kind of filter are you using. I have used Fram till now because I have used them since the 70's. On another forum I hang out at (allpar) there is a link to an oil filter study that a shade tree mechanic did. It show Fram to be inferior. I had planned on changing brands but I had a Fram left from a three pack that I bought at BJ's. I was checking out the oil forum on this page and there was a thread about filters. Everyone there has this same problem if they use Fram. I am headed out today to get a Purolator clone. I just changed the oil last week but what they said made me want to change over.I will let you know what happens. I am also using a heavier weight oil 10-30 not 5-30. I will let you know what happens.
B) You should ALWAYS fill the filter before you install it.
I don't know what the noise is, but since I only hear it from outside the truck while it's at idle, and it doesn't seem to be doing any damage, I'm not worried.
steve my owner manual says that it takes 10-40 oil so i will change it again.you said that you should fill the filter before installation.on the inline 6 the oil filter mounts side ways and this is good if you have an oil filter thats up and down.can you tell me if the noise in your 6 is valve train related?my past dealing have found push rods to wear at the ball of the push rod.mine s not a click its like a fuel knock at ilde.i did check fuel pressure and its 45psi do you think i might be sucking some air to pick up this noise?thanks for the reply
