Important Information About List of Parts
Also covered by the two emissions warranties are all emissions-related bulbs, hoses, clamps, brackets, tubes, gaskets, seals, belts, connectors, non-diesel fuel lines, sensors, and wiring harnesses that are used with components on the list of parts, above.
After doing research here this sensor is no longer considered part of the engine. Although, I emphatically disagree as without is it is a no go.
If you don't mind posting your VIN and mileage, as well as the specific EGT that failed, I can tell you right now if it's covered or not.
Remember, there are FIVE EGTs in total. And they are EGRT_A and EGRT_B, as well as EGT_11, EGT_12 and EGT_13. If you are unsure of the acronyms, I'll be happy to clarify them for you.

They ordered the part today and I do not know the part number or which EGT. The rep that called me she tried a couple different ways to get it covered under warranty but I don't know what that means.
I will try and call customer service tomorrow and see if I can get some goodwill out of the deal and maybe split the cost.

I still do not have the part number but I just got a call. They broke the DPF trying to replace it. So the sensor must be close. Now I also get a new DPF but that is under warranty.

That goes to show dealerships are just as responsible for Ford being sticklers on warranty claims. Tech breaks DPF and instead of dealership paying, they'll file a warranty claim and Ford will pay for it. Oh well. Nothing against you Mich.

Here's where warranty coverage falls under the "gray area". Just by the further information you've included, where they broke the DPF is a dead giveaway that EGT_13 is your culprit. After running your VIN and mileage, I was able to determine your EGT is NOT covered, if entered in as basic part number 5J213, but IS covered if entered in as basic part number 12B591 (under diesel engine part warranty). Your DPF however, IS covered under emission defect. Use this information provided, at your discretion.

I don't know how they could have broken the DPF unless the sensor was IN the DPF. All the more reason it should be covered per the warranty documents.

Ford Customer Service is your best option. My understanding is dealerships have retail costs and warranty costs. If my understanding is correct, the "stealership" will profit more on retail prices as warranty prices are per-determined by Ford as to how much they will pay out per anticipated man hour for a set labor rate and pre-negotiated quantity of man hours. I also believe that parts are charged at dealer cost for warranty work as opposed to retail cost obviously has dealer markup for overhead & profit. But, that's just my understanding and I have been wrong once or twice.
It was a no go on getting the part number changed. I called C.S. and now have a case number. I have a pretty good relationship with the dealer so hopefully they will discount the service. I really like the truck but the cost of ownership is definitly higher then all my other vehicles I have owned.

so far as why the dealer is able to replace the dpf under warranty is simple the bung has also failed. Not your faults or the techs. Its a knowen that does happen. there is a tsb about retaping them if possible but I have had a few were that was not an option.
Those sensors break off in the DPF frequently. Fords answer when that happens is DPF replacement, but the aftermarket came up with a much cheaper repair:
