Ok so I am taking a trip to Walmart with the wife today, along the way I stop and drop 32 gallons of fuel in the truck (ouch). We made our stop and when we were leaving and out of the blue my truck just dies. It fired right back up and on the way home while in motion it would feel like it wanted to die for a split second and then keep moving along. It has never done this before and the only thing I've done to it recently is put on my new drivers door and fill it up. It's a late 99 f-350 7.3 CC LB 4x4. The only things that have been done that I know of is the exhaust, lift and some type of 6 position chip that I have yet to identify. Any thoughts?
Possible a cps (crank position sensor) when they go the truck dies. Normally they just go out totally, but you could have one that is ready to drop out. If memory serves me you want to replace with the black colored one. Around $30 bucks I think. If I got the color wrong somebody will let you know. 10 min job and it takes a 10mm wrench also.
My truck did what you are saying. It would die like I turned the key off, then would start back up and drive a while then die again. It finally didn't start. I changed the CPS and had no problems again.
ok I have another question, I have been pouring through the tech manual that Tugly was so kind to hook me up with and the only position sensor I have been able to find was a cam position sensor. I haven't found anything about a crank position sensor. When I called the parts store asking for a crank position sensor they couldn't find anything other than a cam sensor. Usually if it's a dealer only part they can at least find it and tell me where to get it. He couldn't find anything at all on it. Is it the cam sensor we are talking about or is there actually a crank sensor that I just can't find?
