Unfinished 64 4x4 project value needed

So I am looking to see what you guys think I should ask for my project 1964 F100 4x4. I have a list with all the various changes; ie: year/model, ect. But for this I will just touch on highlights.

1962 Frame (registered 1964) ’64 cab w/flatbed 3.89 gears. Starting up front; closed knuckle diff.(stock) except I upgraded it to factory disks. GMC power steer box (saddle mounted). A 460 4brl sitting on a professionally welded cross member from a ’76 Lincoln with a C6 to divorced transfer (stock) case. Large, many leaf, rear spring pack (could be F350?) supporting a narrowed axle housing with a 31 spline 3rd member and large bearing axles. All new brake components including shoes and pads. New spring bushings and pins front and rear.

So the engine is freshly rebuilt with an rv cam along with the C-6. Most all the electrics are Lincoln including the complete wiring harness. Everything is Ford; walk in to any parts house and ask for stock items…

Ac (76 F100 factory & controls) , cruise control, 6 way power seats, power disk brakes, upgraded C-6, power steering w/tilt & locking column, tinted front window, delay 2spd wipers, gauges and idiot lights, receipts and complete list of changes (year & model), extra diff and misc. including grill and doors. Minimal rust and no crash damage just minor dents and abrasions. After all it is a nearly 50 yr old truck…. But…. She’s been sitting for 10 or 15 yrs since I did all this work.

So based on this…. What should I be asking for this nearly completed project? The major work is done just needs body work, bed, rims, & love.

I got it to this point and then bought a ’78 F250 4x4 and she has just sat waiting ever since. Unless needed; prime the carb (to save the starter), turn the key, good to go. She’s a good truck and no slouch either. Can carry most any load and will set you back in those Lincoln seats if you need to pass someone.

Eventually I hope to do is find someone who can appreciate the base I have provided and have the skills and foresight to complete her and restore her the rest of the way to the beauty/beast she desires to be. It wouldn’t hurt for the person to be shorter than 6’ tall as the Lincoln seats while comply do take up some room….

I know I shouldn’t take less than 1500 but I am so far removed from what I should ask that any help would be greatly appreciated! It’s been too long to recoup the cash I invested and since I did all the labor myself; well you know how that goes, how to charge for my many hours…… I did this for me not to sell!

P.S. If anyone wants to know how I did the front disk brake upgrade I would be glad to share that info. Not too hard or expensive and uses factory everything except special adapters which have to be machined. I hate fixed caliper “c*ap” that most change over’s use….. Mine is stock; brackets, dust shields, calipers, disks…..

Here's the before she got ignored.... Click to enlarge:

And now years later & less than 500mi more.... Please don't hate:

Well,, I will say it LOOKED nice,, but sitting for years,, AND sitting under a tree, in grass is hell on them,,, the moisture gets into everything,,, as do the mice,,,
Yep,, you never get your money out of them buy low,,, sell low
And has been stated many times,,, it is worth what someone is willing to pay for it,,, and from what I have seen lately,,, 460 with $4.50 gal gas just ain't a popular choice,,, stick it on CL for $1500 see what ya get,,, with all the rust underneath there,,, hard to say,,

Sitting that long without running or driving? At minimum all the seals are rotted in the engine & trans. Cylinders rusted from the valves sitting open. may even have froze valves in it. Basically what you have is a rough cab & clip. If you can get $1500 I would take the money & run. If I were there looking at it & seen more than what I do in the pics I might do as much as $500 but doubt it.

No.... Just not a daily driver. Shes a turn key right now! I just stopped working on the project. Only used a few times a year and she purrs. The only thing that doesn't work is the AC doesn't blow cold.... But still has pressure in the lines and a lifetime warranty pump.

I'd put her up against any truck as she sits! Hauling weight or acceleration! No leaks; oil, water or rain.....

Thanks for the input though!

I know I should be ashamed! I keep telling myself I'm waiting for a "replacement bed" for the steel over wood flatbed w/racks & locking steel door slide thru drawer storage underneath.

Thanks for your input! The cab looks the same as it did years ago. She has stayed relatively dry especially inside the cab. Oils clean with no level change or signs of white froth anywhere. Trans too.

No mice! Surprisingly true.... I guess they have others, out in the field, they like better. No twigs, sticks or tracks....

Guess I'll stick to my original 1500 and find her a good home as my reward! Thanks for the replies! Glenn

Hauling weight won't carry you far with an antique truck. A running driving truck should be worth no less than $1000 though. One of the problems other than unfinished is the modifications. I read an article once that explained it very well. The farther away you get from stock the smaller & smaller the group of potential buyers will be. As you had stated. You were building it for you. Your specific desires.

True but my mods are all factory Ford items. Walk into any parts store and ask for a Ford part and they should have it. The only thing not Ford is the steerbox which is GMC. The rear end has the largest outer bearing Ford makes for a 9in rear end. Certainly not a F250 but beefy just the same; a lot stronger than the original 28 spline axle.

I built it to be strong, it is a half ton, and last. She'll be around longer than these "new trucks"

None of that changes anything. My truck is all Ford. 2005 CV IFS, 1995 MN12 IRS, '76 460/C6. Shaved wipers & handles. All of which makes the available buyers a smaller group. I can up talk all the advantages but at the end of the day they are advantages to me not everyone else. You are emotionally attached to the truck. This is going to make it very difficult for you to sell. The closer someone gets to their ideal in most cases the farther away they get from the masses. All you say may be true BUT it is ancient technology. Unless someone is dedicated to working on it themselves people will opt for the newer truck. My "beat to death" truck is a '90.

I already have the problem with my truck. There are far more shops that will not touch it than those who will.

For me, the good is its a 4x4 with a 460, power steering, disk brakes and AC, it is a Frankentruck but it's all Ford and you've done most of the mechanical work. Personally I don't care about keeping these trucks stock, they built too many of them for that to matter, I like them to be drivable, fun and cool. It looks like your truck would be a great start for someone who feels more comfortable with the cosmetic upgrades and is fine learning about the ins and outs of the mechanics as they go along. If it rolls and rides they go for around a $1,000 here, I think being a 4x4 adds something and the upgrades you've made give it some more value but the age on the upgrades take a little back, as long as the rust isn't too bad I believe you're fair at $1,500.00.

Just wondering. How many of this vintage 4wd truck do you think they made? Sounds like you think they made several thousand of them. If you think that you better guess again.

I still think tit will bring the most cash parting it out.

Lots of nice upgrades that people who currently own a pre I-beam F100 would like.

Most people looking for a 60s F100 arent knowledgeable enough to know what kind of work is involved in getting a truck to the point where yours is at.

If I still lived in Los Gatos, you'd already have it sold...even at $2k. However, I'm 1900 miles east of there now and can't afford the time or cash to come get it. Good luck, and I think it's worth $2k easy if it runs and drives like you say.

Yes I am emotionally attached to something I have owned for 35 yrs. Enough so that finding the right person would be worth more than the cash. Parting her out ain't going to happen! Good thing is that I'm in no hurry. Right now she's a Blue Plate special; literally! Blue Calif plates.....

Thanks for kind words! Continuing replies; good and bad are welcome
