i have the stock e40D in my 93f250 idi. i bought a new motor for it a couple months ago and when i got home from deployment the tach didnt work. i replaced the tach sensor on the motor about 2 months ago and it helped my problem the truck shifted fine and had lots of power. The other day i was getting fuel and when i got back in my truck the tach wasnt working again and the overdrive light was on and stays on. i took t to a shop and they tried hooking a scanner up to it but it kept restarting the scanner. Anyone have a similar problem or know what to do. im in need of lots of help its my daily driver so i need something
try cleaning your transmission electrical plug on the passenger side behind the cover plate. 2 screws on plate remove to see wiring plug in. use wd40 and air nozzle clean well reinstall.
also do the same to your computer harness out under hood drivers side WAYY down behind wheel well.
of course disconnect your batteries first.
This worked for me 8000 miles ago and still shifting perfect.
give her a try wont cost you anything but a little wd40
your issue isnt at the trans , the tach sensor is connected directly to the processor
you have a bad sensor or a break in the wiring between the sensor and processor.
if the trans takes off in 4th gear then you have a fuse or relay not feeding power to the processor
Ford trans tech is right.
Fix the Tach. If its not the whole problem it is one that will have to be fixed to make the od light go off
The E4od is a totally electronic transmission and beleave it or not but half the sensors on that truck effects the trans and will cause it to start the od light flashing.
Ground wire. There is a ground wire that is mounted to the fender next to break master cylinder make sure it is clean and in good shape. If I remember right that grounds some of the sensors. Maybe someone else can put there two cent in on this one.
