I decided to do some cleaning in the engine bay of the 1981 Bronco 4.9L. I do not plan of having a/c until I can get a lot of other items for the truck. Soooo that being said I removed the ac condenser along with ever hose for the ac and other stuff. Any negative effects?
I believe the defroster uses cool air to help it clear a fogged over windshield also. If yours was not functioning anyway, removing all the under hood items will only make it more difficult to restore once you get tired of the hot air inside....
Gray, the compressor has gone also but I took out the condenser yesterday in a way that i could get everything back together one day if the condenser doesn't have a hole in it somewhere. It looked in alright shape, a couple places had a few fins damaged so look alright.
AZ, ya I have not had the a/c hooked since I got into the "restoring" it. The only reason I took the condenser out is because the driver side line was kind of fused to the condensor itself. I remember it being pretty straight forward to replace the condensor to instead of risking damaging anything with frustation I just removed the whole component.
Be careful with the condenser though if your AC compressor is bad. Often times its too hard to flush out all the debris out of the condensers so if you get a new AC compressor and reuses the old condenser, you could manage to get debris in the new compressor and it will eventually fail..
edit: eventually as in a few months or less depending on how much debris is stuck in the condenser.
Ya that thought crossed my mind as far as the trash in the lines. I never followed up with it.
I was think when I get the money or just want to make AC a priority I will do a whole new system.
