High idle mod has several benefits. 1. In the mornings when engine is cold, you can use it to get engine temp. up before driving. Better for engine and makes heater work quicker on cold days. 2. To help prevent wet-stacking and breakdown of engine oil from extended idle time. 6.0's are touchy on that. 3. If using invertors or other power drawing items, a little higher RPM helps alternator.
Hope that answers question.
Murdermode, It depends on what year 6.0 you have, if you have upfitter switches already or where you want to put switch on dash. I do not know if any dealers will install it, some might, but it's going to cost you. Easy to do yourself with minimal cost and only minimal time. There is an excellant how-to with pictures in the Tech folder. Depending on year and transmission type, very simple and worth doing. I have an 04, so no upfitter switches. I placed a toggle on right side on steering wheel.
also for keeping the a/c blowing cold when sitting.
I haven't found any reason you need a switch. You could connect the two wires full time, and it will only ever kick up the idle with the parking brake on and in park, and foot off the pedals. I don't claim to know what this will cause, but if I didn't have upfitter switches I'd do it that way and find out.
Just did the high idle mod and what an awesome thing. I had this on my 7.3l with my DP Tuner and it was very handy and used it quite often. Jump starting tractors and trucks, keeping a/c or heater kicking, prevent wet stacking when idling, etc. thank for posting the instructions amdrivin2liv.
I put a switch on mine last year and have used it maybe 2 times. The engine automatically idles itself up when its cold. If I'm going to idle for more than 10 minutes I just shut the truck off. The only times I've used it was to jump start my friends trucks and I'm sure I could have done it without.
A cold engine will choose an elevated idle based on outside temp etc. anyway. If you leave the switch on and the parking brake set and remote start it, it will (I would guess immediately) jump to the 1200 or whatever instead of choosing for itself.
I use mine quite often. It keeps the A/C blowing cold and heat warm when need be. Also it gives me peace of mind of all the problems extended idling can do to the 6.0. I always use it when starting cold to get the engine up to temp quicker. You are aware that the 6.0 is a loud engine so your neighbors may hate it though, haha
Murdermode- not sure where you live but keep in mind if you set your E-brake over night when it's cold and wet you may be driving around with a frozen shoe in place for a while.
