hey guys i have just purchased a firestone air helper spring kit with front and rear air bags, and a comp with .5 gal tank. Does anyone else run a compressor for either air bags or air horns and where did you mount the compressor so it doesnt get destroyed from water and debris from the road?
AJ, I only have air horns and I mounted both the compressor and air tank in the bed of the truck all the way forward. I have heard mounting under the truck can be tough on the relay that operates the pump as well as debris hitting it if you do alot of offroading. If you do mount it under the truck make sure you pipe the air intake somewhere where it wont ingest dirt, water etc.

my compressor is mounted under bed passengers side about 2 1/2 feet back from the cab... kinda estimating since im not looking at it (she's in seguin till next week) and the ammo can is bolted upside down... compressor mounted inside it. have it plumbed to breathe from inside the cab... and have a 3 gal tank mounted just behind the ammo can. have a quick connect on both sides of rear bumper...
My pickup has an Airlift Load Controller compressor mounted under the truck on the inner rocker. It comes in a plastic case that seems to protect it fairly well. It's been there for years without any issues.
My F450 has a Gast Manufacturing Roc-R air compressor mounted in the tool box.
As far as noise goes...the Airlift pump is pretty loud, it will stop conversation while operating. The Roc-R compressor is barely audible. I have to open the tool box door to hear it running. They both are good pumps and are designed for different uses. I've been pretty happy with both models.
am i missing something here? all you get is the compressor which is an a/c compressor. bracket, filter, brass fittings not included. you would still need the belt to run it, wiring, relay and switches. looked at the accessory section and did not find a kit to install this. off road guys have been using old a/c comp as air comp for along time and they work well.

cheap and absolutely effective.
xtof
Do you have any pictures of your comp mount with the ammo can? did you put any holes in the ammo can to let out any heat from when the comp is going??
ill take some pictures and post them today.
no breather holes... would defeat the purpose of having a sealed box... but now that you mention it... i may come up with a cooling system for it fed by the air tank.
so far it has not been an issue.
snacdoc, if you figuere out how to make the bracket let me know, i went to extremeoutbacks website and they show the mounting kit $799, you still have to buy the compressor. if you are serious about building this set up i will check and see if i can come up with a used a/c comp of a big rig.
