Never thought to look in the 99-03.
Always assumed he didnt have a kit for our trucks. lol
if that kit works for both he should put them in both sections!
so is that big black tube replace the breather that is on the valve cover now or does it go after it say when the hose is traveling up over the brake booster
I still plan on putting a catch can in mine, just finding the parts to make it is the issue.
I actually gutted my doghouse recently as well. It got really loaded up with oil, so I said screw it.
I was having issues with blow by coming in the air system at idle.
Having no fan in the engine bay is probably one of the culprits of this.
with looking at it i dont see why you couldnt take a piece of pcv pipe and put 2 caps on it and a drain in the bottom and then still run the vent back to the intake like factory and you will have a catch can that will catch the oil
or the other idea i am thinking is
make the same pipe and make it about 6-8 inchs long and mount it to the firewall at a slope say cbout 45 degrees and have the line from the engine go into the tube on the side at the very bottom so if oil gets in there it will drain back into the doghouse and then at the top oppisite side drill a hole and put a fitting and then run it back to the intake.
with the tube being about that length and i personally would use a 3 inch tube and i think a 4 inch would be way to big, but even with a 3 inch that long it will come into the can and hit the other side wall and get the oil from being air born and with the diameter and length i am thinking that it will slow down the vilosity of the air and wont push the oil out and into the intake
There is no point in trying to reengineer the wheel here, catch cans are a waste of time and money.....
I have had the CCV mod on my '97 for almost 7 years and the '96 for over 5. I dont think they have ever left an oil spot from the CCV, the rear main, the dipstuck tube, the oil cooler, and the drain plug are a different story...
If you got that much oil coming out the CCV you got problems. the dog house on the VC is stuffed with steal wool type stuff and is designed to filter out any oil before it gets out of the housing, run the tube up over the brake booster and down to the frame.
I've run mine for about the same length of time and in the same design Rod and never had a problem. My brother -in-law is a **** perfectionist and if I left any oil on his driveway I would hear about it, LOL.

i understand the whole thing of there should not be any oil in the intake system but every powerstroke built from 95 to 10, if it is left factory with the vent going into the intake has oil in there, i just want to build a setup that keeps it set up factory but will stop oil from going threw and into the intake, i have ran it with the vent dumping out under the vehicle but it just stinks
check it out gents... I took my intake apart last month and there was oil everywhere, so I decided to do a CCV mod. I had seen pics all over the place, so I flipped the dog house, and plugged the bung on the bottom of the intake piece. Then I used the 90 deg. elbow that is on it stock, took those old clamps off and used a worm drive clamp to reattach that back to the dog house (after I cleaned it of course). Then used a straight 3/4" tube connector, and 10' length of regular heater hose to go over the brake booster, down the back of the fender well, and followed the frame rail to about the back of the cab (extended cab, not crewcab).
Here is my issue, sometimes that thing gets to poopin out a noticeable amount of smoke, haven't quite figured out the situation that makes it smoke more but it doesn't do it all the time. Living in Commiefornia, I get kind of nervous sitting at a light and having smoke poofing out from under the truck because that's a super good way to get a ticket in this daggon state. So I was thinking about putting a "T" fitting in the hose somewhere and routing another length of heater hose back to the intake. Any thoughts on where I should put the fitting? Mostly I just want the smoke to be piped back into the intake so it isn't coming out from under the truck anymore, but I don't want the oil problem to come back. Any help yall have would be much appreciated. --Powerstoked!
i wouldnt put a t in there cause it might pull unfiltered air into the intake i think i have a good idea on a catch can just got to get to home depot and get some parts to build it and then i will post some pics of it, will build it here after the 4th once i get my monthy spiff.
Someone said that the 6.4 has the ccv from the factory. Can it be added to our trucks? I've never seen one in a 6.4 so maybe some pics if someone has them?
well i dont know if i would call it that but it has a canister that bolts on top of the valve cover, and the problem they have is the tube that runs to the intake is close to the valve cover if i remember right and it is also the filler for the oil so i am sure some of that oil will get into the tube, have never cut one apart to see how it is designed but it does not work
