Welcome to FTE. The favorite heavy duty steering box seems to be from redhead. Red-Head Steering Gears, Seattle WA - Red-Head Steering Gears Home

A little of both. They are a full rebuild with some modifications.

What kind of problems are you having? Got a lift with big tires? Some other issue that makes things re-occurring? Keep in mind the hydroboost unit ties the steering box and brakes together. Upgraded, hi-flow power steering pumps and boxes are available, but you really need to get your hydroboost unit ported before you can run something like that.

Is this a DIY mod or something to have done. That would be interesting to know how to do.

I don't think it's a DIY job, and you'd probably have to get lots of input from one of the high flow pump makers on exactly how much to port before you could have a shop do it for you.

I hope you do not have to port hydroboost just for the gearbox cause that's not in my agenda.
My redhead is on the way(missed out on group buy) but I am only going to run stock ps pump. No porting. Hopefully no issues

You don't. Only for some of the high flow power steering pumps.

It's a good time to flush the ATF in the power steering pump though since you're putting in a red head.

I got the standard Red Head for my 02 and it's just like driving a new truck now. They will also build them custom for you if you have special needs/wants.

I replaced my power steering box last weekend and now my truck drives like it has no power steering. My buddy who did the work said the gaskets aren't lubed yet and after a couple of weeks will be better. Is this normal?

Never heard on that. It should work or not work. What steering box did you use?
