1994 f150 fuel issue

I am helping a friend with his 1994 f150 300 6cyl Dual tank setup. Truck has been sitting up for about 2 yrs. So far he has diag it with a bad solenoid. He has to jump teminals for the starter to engage. he has key power goin to it. He hopes to get it replaced this weekend.

My question is with key in on position and you jump the solenoid the eng spins over but will not crank. Now you can pour lil fuel in TB and it will run until it is burned up. So I know ign is fine.

My question does the solenoid also power the fuel pumps? Ifnot what does. It may have bad pumps due to sitting up. I personally havn't had a chance to even see the truck. he has been texting me questions on what to check. I did a quick search and didn't find my answer. I am that familiar with FORDS.

Thanks for all replys.

If he can jump the solenoid and the starter motor turns, the solenoid is fine. I would suspect a NSS (Neutral Safety Switch) or the ignition switch or the wiring.

Spin and crank are the same thing. What are you trying to say?

I think he is trying to say the engine will turn over, but, it will not fire and start. If this is the case then it would have to be in the run position on the ignition switch. That is if the key is in the run position while he is jumping the solenoid and it wont fire.

No there should be a dedicated wire and feed for the fuel pumps that come on when the key is on. This is either PCM or ignition switch problems.

Can you hear the in-tank fuel pumps run when the key is turned and before the engine is cranked? If not the pump is probably dead and the motor will never start on it's own. Put a pressure gauge on the fuel rail and you'll know of the pump works or not. FYI... each tank has it's own seperate in-tank pump and that's it, no external pumps on this truck.

Spin and crank are the same thing. What are you trying to say?

when solenoid is jumped the starter will engage and spin the engine over, but with the key in the run position (i meant run prev, not on) the engine will not crank up/start and run on its own.

I am leaning more towards a bad fuel pump, due to sitting up. he found a receipt for a new ign switch in the truck, and then looked at it and it was new.

I will ask him to see if he hears the pumps prime when the key is turned to the run position.

one other question. the switch on dash for fuel tanks. does it send power to each pump depending on whcih way the switch is pressed.

sorry for these types of question. i have yet to go and look at this truck. I am a tech by trade, but just not familiar with this dual fuuel tank setup.

Fuel pumps hate me! I've had to replace the in-tank fuel pump in every Ford truck I've had that had one. My current 94 sat for 2 years according to the guy I bought it from. He cranked it before I bought it, I loaded it onto the trailer, unloaded it & ran it around the field, parked it ...... that was it. Replaced the pump, ran it 10 minutes, let it sit a week, dead again. Warrantied the pump, replaced it last Saturday but haven't put fresh gas in and cranked it yet. Come to find out this is a Chinese pump 8-( so who know the fate of it. Should have researched it more. You do not have to go OEM, Airtex/Carter/AC are top quality, but beware if the Chinese imports!

Front pump module is a E2059MN (also 19 gal rear PLASTIC tank)
Rear pump module is a E2064MN (18 gal steel tank)

This is one of the previously owned trucks. Pull the bed, replace them both, be happy......

I don't get it.... Denver and a few other locations have been using this "crap fuel" since the mid-1980s. At first, only in the wintertime, but it became all that was available within a handful of years.

Every gas tank I've looked in - be it my own or in a junkyard - looks absolutely fine.

I just don't understand how people blame all sorts of problems on the stuff some of us have been using for more than 10 years already....

Any gasoline will varnish after it's sat for years. Odd thing is since my trucks are salvage trucks they have sat for a while but months not years. I have no idea how long the one I pictured above with no bed on it had sat but here's the fuel pump out of it.

Check for power at the fuel pump with a voltmeter or test light. If you have power, but no fuel pressure. You know its the pump.
