Question missing helper spring brackets?

So I have these helper springs on my f-150 but they are not supporting any weight and have just been sitting there. I want to hook them up correctly but I'm not sure how they were originally hooked up. Are those holes on my frame for a bracket for the springs or am I supposed to use a U bolt like what holds the springs onto the axle.

BTW before I got the truck the leaf spring shackles were replaced so could it be that if there was helper spring shackles they were removed and not replaced?

I don't think it missing brackets, but more like missing U-bolts.. Here is a pic of what it looks like you have... I didn't look up the exact application but posted this pic since it is clear and shows what it should look like...

Here is the site the pic came from... Hellwig - Load and Sway Control Products

I don't know if they sell parts separately or not but you might check them ans see...

thanks a lot. Does every truck of this generation have holes predrilled in their frame there then and what are they for? And if I bought new U joints and idea how tight they should be torqued down?

You mean U-bolts, U-joints go in the driveshaft.

Not very tight, the more you crank down on them the more the rear of the truck will lift, so if you just want the extra load capacity then just tighten the bolts enough to make them snug and not rattle around too much.

Here is a factory set-up.I'm told the truck was called a Trailer Special. It's an '88 F250 4x4 reg cab.The brackets are just above the springs.

The F150 and F250 light duty(under 8500lb GVWR) frames are similar though I believe the F250 version is heavier(thicker) steel, but the HD truck frames are much bigger in every dimension and heavier gauge as well.
