In the C-clamp test, you were to move the steering wheel while the C-clamps held the pitman.
I'll take it apart again, but all the parts seem to be there and in the correct order. Maybe the pitman ball is too worn? The other end does not go in as far.

With the C-clamps stopping the pitman arm the steering wheel still has a bit of play, probably just under 1 hour, so a 1/18 of a full rotation of the steering wheel.

Thanks

That is acceptable play. Is the engine out? If so, it's super easy to pull the box now, I would do so. The Workshop Manual has the criteria for setting worm endplay/preload, very simple to do if the gears are in good shape. If the sector shaft bushings are worn, easier to replace now. Worst case, you take it apart, put it right back together, hopefully without leaks.

Mine's leakage turned out to be from the adjustment bolt for the sector shaft. There's no "seal", so once it was set, I goobered it with RTV, put the cap on and let it sit a day or two before adding oil.

Believe it or not, 90wt dripping on the front spring is bad for it, it's worth chasing!
