5 Star tune question
2. If you do what are your rpm's at say 65mph, 4.10's and stock tires?
3. Is there any way to run in 4th gear in a 2008 V10 SD other then a tune?
4. Would there be any negative consequences to locking 5th out until after 70 MPH?
5. When towing my goose neck and run into some wind when I push just a little bit on the gas my rpm rise from 2000 to about 2400, is this just the TC unlocking? If I push harder it down shifts and to me it seems like it goes right to 3rd. If I shift from D to 3 I go from 2000 to about 3200 rpm.
The truck tows just fine and for the most part just hums right along at 64-68, it really like 70 as that puts me right at 2150 or so. I wish I could run at 65 at about 2400 rpm as that seems to be the towing sweet spot.
The GCW is 22450 so I am right up there, I still have 500 pounds of capacity left on the rear axle and I barley touch on the over loads. Again I have no complaints just wondering if there is a way to improve my situation without changing gears. I know Could put a smaller diameter tire on but that would look silly.
My 100 mile trip home yesterday averaged 7.8MPG so not bad. The trip out last friday was not so good, head wind and was down around 4.5 -5 mpg at 65ish. I really wish I had a bigger tank on those days.
Thanks for any input.
With the tow tune on my 04' holds 3rd (1:1) until 59mph. (4th is 1:1 on the 5R110)

Not unless you have the 6 speed manual trans
4. Would there be any negative consequences to locking 5th out until after 70 MPH?
When your towing not really. In my experience the increase in rpm when cruising doesn't effect mpg because the throttle input and load is decreased since your closer to the peak of the torque curve.

Sounds like the torque converter unlocking to me. The TC unlocks to multiply torque. Also helps you get closer to the peak torque curve.
