I've been reading the forum now for a couple weeks, including any "low power" threads I could find and I'm still not sure what problem/problems my truck is having.
When I start the truck it starts up no problem, no smoke, everything seems to be fine. But as soon as I start to drive the whole truck starts to shake somewhat violently, is much louder, and the transmission doesn't seem to be shifting correctly. I can only go 20MPH tops when it's like that even with the pedal to the floor.
I have done the high idle mod and if it's a cold start, and i flip the switch, it's the same thing, horrible shaking and very loud.
Once the truck has warmed up the problem completely goes away.
I'm completely stumped on this one.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I would check FICM first. Click this link for instructions : https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...procedure.html
Pretty quick and easy. Just need a multimeter that can read dc volts, a wrench, Torx screwdriver and a helper to turn the key. Maybe 30 min for a n00b . If that's ok it may be injector stiction or fuel pressure.
Welcome to FTE !
I just bought the truck a couple weeks ago. A diesel guy my dad knows said it sounded like stiction to him. He recommended I change the oil and treat it with Hot Shot's Secret and to use their fuel additive. It's been about 600 miles so far and I'm noticing good improvements, but it's still a problem on cold starts. I'll check out that FICM thread and give it a try. Thanks for the info guys.
ok, Got a 2 yr FICM with the Ecotune from Ed. I'm installing it tomorrow. I also installed a Diamond Eye 4" turbo back straight pipe, and disconnected the EGR. A Dfuser coolant filter, Hot Shot's bypass oil filter, Blue Diamond oil, and a coolant flush are all in the immediate future. Are the EGR delete kits that say they're bolt on as easy to install as they make out?

You are talking about deleting the cooler and not the EGR valve, correct? You'll need to keep the EGR valve plugged into the wiring harness to keep the truck from overheating. If it's unplugged, the PCM won't spoil the radiator fan...I know, sounds crazy but it's how the trucks are set up. When you say Ed, are you talking about Ed at FICMrepair?
This late in the spring, I wouldn't think it's an issue but what weight and spec oil are you using? I'm not a fan of any of "Hot Shot's secert" or their products, including the oil bypass filter. The engine is going to shear the oil down around the 5k mile mark. It may look clean, but the additives in it are gone...the OEM filter is more than enough to keep the oil clean for what the motor needs. Coolant filters are a different story, but if your running OEM filters (Ford, Navistar or Racor) you've got the best filters for your engine already.
