I have a 2000 exc. I am going to have to replace my wiper switch. They had a mind of their own and now they have no mind at all, just want to run all the time. So what brand is best? Airtex, Wells, or neither? Go with the OEM? Thanks for any advise. I dont want to do it twice & esp. not three times!
I have a spare OEM one from my '02. When I bought the Ex and signaled right, it would not click itself back to the off position. Everything else worked.
I replaced it with another OEM. I think '00 & '01 is a different part number than the '02+.
Where are you located? You can have my spare one...You could swap the internal parts if you're handy. If you're too far away, just pay shipping.
Sorry it took so long to get back to you. Been out of town. Im in Tennessee. I appreciate the offer! But I think I am going to go with a new one. I hate to have to do it again later. How bad is the swap? Fairly easy? And again, I really do appreciate the offer.
Pretty easy to swap. Disconnect negative battery terminal. Insert key and turn to on position. Insert a long pick into the bottom hole to release the stop for the lock cylinder and pull the lock cylinder out with the key.
3 screws at the bottom of the steering wheel column to remove the cover. May need to tilt the steering wheel down to remove top cover. May need to move dash bezel up out of the way to remove that top cover. Couple of star screws holding the switch in place. Disconnect the connector and replace.
While you're in there, check the wires in the column closely and insulate.any chaffed wires you may find.
Thats good! I was hoping you wasnt going to say "You have to pull the air bag, steering wheel, and half the dash. lol. Thanks for the heads up on wires. I prob. wouldnt have done that. I def. will now.
ok. Its been a while since I posted the wiper problem, but I did get a new mf switch. That didnt fix it... It still wont turn off. Unless I kill the power with the wipers in the down position. I pulled the cowl off and everything looks as it should there. I didnt say in the last post that I noticed when the problem started, the wiper arms werent all the way dwn when they are off, like they use to be. And when I turn the key to aux. they will slowly creap up til they get high enuf that they just start going all the time. Is there a relay or control module that could be bad??? Thanks for any advice.
Update: I replaced the wiper motor today and that fixed my problem! SO FAR! lol. It was $73 at ORileys and took a couple of hours. Wasnt hard to do at all. Just wanted to post so anybody else that may have the same problem may have a idea what was wrong. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP GUYS!
