difference from min to max on dipstick

On most cars I think there's about 1 qt. between the two, but I'm wondering if this engine is different since it holds so much oil.

The reason I ask is because on my last oil change I put in 15 qts. and the oil was all the way up on the metal part of the stick. Yesterday I was due for another change and only put in 14. Now its not on the metal, but its still over the max (its almost at the top of the yellow bulb). Should I go through the hassle of trying to drain some out or am I barely even overfilled?

I am thinking your close in thinking 1qt diffrence maybe 2 max

I dont ever have to put more than 14qt in at oil change and I just looked at my Notes and I did Install 14qt and that put mine 1/2 way on the crosshatch Marks

The first time I changed I was throwing 15qt at it to didnt think much of it IIRC thats what my Haynes manual called for Haynes isnt very good for these rigs to say the Least

then my injector Orings leaked and I was Making oil. after I fixed that I started only filling it till the oil leval hit the Middle of the Crosshatch marks.

So with fixing the injector orings and keeping the oil down alittle middle crosshatch marks the BEDPLATE Stopped Leaking/Seeping and the Bell Housing STOPED Driping or didnt have the Famous Drip Hanging there. Im thinking alot of folks that have the Bell house drip or Badplate seep probably just have to much oil in there as my truck has Dryed right up

I run with the 15 Qt plan, and the oil is always at the top of the crosshatch area of the dip stick. Is it possible when you checked the oil...or drained the old oil that the truck wasn't level?

In the manual in the glove compartment it states that the distane from ADD to OPERATING RANGE on the dipstick represents 2 qts (1.9L).

Thanks for the info guys. As far as I know my driveway is level but that's a good idea I'll have to check it somewhere else.

Benny I have had the hanging drip on the bell housing since the day I've owned my truck, it just hangs there but never falls. I guess the previous owner was overfilling too.

Im thinking 15qt is the straw that breaks the camels back in my truck

Dry as a Bone since I cut back to 14qt

Just went and checked again Not so much as a DRIP at ALL on my bellhouse (In the begining it always had that drip hanging The Dealer was even doing most of them oil changes at the time)

I bet we could even go Less to mine right where yours is at 14qt about on the dipstick BUT mines Jacked up dipstick the head parts busted so IDK if i was getting it in the right spot. So you saying that makes me think 13.5qt even would be fine

Makes me wonder what a 7.3L takes for oil I have NO Idea was it like 18qt IDK???

Not to hijack, but the famous bell housing drip, where is the actual leak?I have been trying to find it for weeks, and my truck is not at the full mark.I just did studs and headgaskets ,all new gaskets cause I had the motor out, because of the leak previously. Now after going through all of that,I still have the same leak.

One more question,when you said
injector orings were leaking, where were they leaking, where the plug comes throught the rocker carrier or is it and internal leak? Thanks

I've always run 15 qts. in mine and had no problems. My manual also states 15. Seems to vary for diff. trucks for whatever reason.
