So I got to do but I'm confused because my truck will charge the battery but when I have the lights on and I honk the horn the lights will dim and the horn will barely want to sound. I tried searching the forum to see if anyone else had this prob but I couldn't find anything my battery is 4 years old, I just got a reman alternatorand it didn't fix the problem. I checked every connection more then twice to see if everything is ok and I can't see anything wrong connected

Reason: can't write a decent sentence from my mobile app
-4yo battery
-New rebuilt 3g alternator
-Not charging. Unable to do lights and horn at same time.
I think that's what's going on.
So did the lights and horn start and that's why you replaced the alternator?
What voltage do you have at the battery terminals while running?
If you disconnect the negative battery cable and measure in AMPS between the battery and the cable how much draw is there? (engine not running)
If you take the battery out of the truck and let it sit by itself, does the voltage drop?
1. Yes, i hate to just throw money away like that.
2. I haven't checked it yet with this alternator.
3. I'll check that tomorrow at work.
4. If i take the battery out and let it sit on the floor?? Haven't done this yet.

Right, remove the battery from the vehicle and see if it still discharges all by itself. This separates the two, and any parasitic draw that may exist in the truck's wiring can have absolutely zero effect with the battery someplace else. A battery with a failing cell will still fail, even on the garage floor.

okay I will disconnect it tonight. But I don't know if this is a myth but won't a battery discharge if left on a concrete floor?
Before Bakelite in the 'teens battery cases were made of lead lined oil rich cypress.
I was friends with an old timer, Difenbach Kleis, that had helped to start Echlin, and had numerous patents to his name.
