I keep daydreaming about my truck while I'm bored and I was thinking about exhaust recently. I realize the Volare is a pain in the @$$ when it comes to headers, but I have to ask. Does anyone know of a full length header (for 302/351w) that might work with that big ol monstrosity of a steering box? I know I can get some shorty headers to work but I really fancy the idea of my truck thundering down the block with open full length headers ......maybe I should just keep dreaming
I've got Doug Thorley full length headers on my '59/302 with a Toyota steering box. Don't know how different in size the Toyo is vs. the Volare ("whoa-oh-oh";sorry, couldn't resist!) box, but I've got a couple of inches to spare. Hope this helps...
BTW, good luck cruisin' The Cruz with open headers and NOT attracting NIMBY's calling SCPD on ya! LOL...
'fenders is a shorty header fan. I have hated every set of full length headers I ever owned. Not for performance reasons. They just look bad hanging low (which they almost always do). Plus the gasket blowing issues of aftermarket headers at the cylinder head and the collector. And they rust out in Iowa unless coated. You might avoid these issues to a degree with a $400 set.
I think John is correct, many close fitting headers should clear easily. I have been told late 60s SB Torino headers work.
