Bilstein Shocks

39900, Rancho's very tired. New Bilstein 5100's - truck feels solid again. These things creep up on you so slowly, you probably don't notice how mushy the ride has become. That was the case for me.

Had the OEM version of Bilsteins on my 2000 and was happy with them. The 5100's seem to be a notch better. These trucks have a lot of unsprung mass and need a quality dampener! Ford should be red faced over those miserable 'Rancho' shocks!

Just sayin'

jammer

sidebar:

All 4 of the Rancho's were shot! Each would move about 1-2" before any dampening happened. Also, all seemed to have lost their nitrogen charge. Collapse the shock, it just stayed there!

Very glad I didn't wait, my new Goodyear Wranglers need to stay in touch with the ground!

I can't remember who but someone posted on Big Sarge's thread about replacing the Ranchos with Bilsteins and when he was done he compressed all 4 Ranchos and when He came out the next morning 3 of the Ranchos were still compressed. I've 25,000 miles on my Ranchos and am ready to get the Bilstein 5100's.

I changed mine out at 14,200 miles and none of them rebounded at all when compressed. I checked the trash can 4 days after I put them in it and they were still compressed.

im curious if anyone has done the same compression test to a set of bilsteins or real ranchos after any significant mileage. just to see if they are the same as day one or what the change is

I can't believe someone would change out brand new Rancho's on a brand new truck. Must be something wrong with those crappy shocks. Never heard of that.

I think it's time Tom to make a part number file in the tech folder here. List part numbers for stock shock replacement, include bilstein and rancho part numbers for shocks and steering stabilizers.

I'm going to have to find the bilstein part number for the steering stabilizer this week.

I hope you don't mind me asking, but it's a pretty useful thing.

I've got Bilstein part numbers 24-186018 fronts and 24-186025 for the rears? I wonder what the difference is?

Bilstein shocks and struts for cars and trucks - Shockwarehouse.com

Here is the 5100 series steering stabilizer.

I have the 4600 series shocks, much cheaper and they seem to be holding up well with over 50k on them.
