Yeah, it's manual. That's what I figured I'd wind up doing. No big deal. Just that last little detail to make it complete. Thanks for your input.

Enjoy it. I've put about 20k problem free miles on mine and I use the 4wd pretty often without an issue.

jls343, I sweated over that light on the dash also but when I looked at the 4wd wire loom at the salvage yard . . . .I changed my mind way too much of a nightmare for a light on the dash and like DieselVol said "you know when its engaged". At first this conversion seems intimidating but with the right donor truck its very doable. I'm very happy with mine.

when I eventually get around to it, I'll let you know if that wiring is already there in 2008.

I believe it is.

The only thing I don't have figured out is the 4x4 dash indicator. The best I could do at ford was a plug with a pigtail that would plug into the transfer case for the internal switch. Do you all think there is already a bulb in the dash? I would like to avoid tearing the dash apart. Anybody have any suggestions as to how to find the correct wires or if they even exist in a 2 wheel drive wiring harness? Thanks for any help.
Interesting that you're not seeing the ABS problem. For future searcher's sake, my assumption that a 2wd computer can't recognize the 4wd ABS is probably wrong. More likely, in my case at least, is that an '03 computer can't recognize an '06 ABS.

that would be my guess, too

4x4 and 4x2 ABS brake systems should be no different. Each wheel has a tone ring and sensor just the same.

Why would ABS have anything to do with whether the truck is capable of driving all 4 wheels or not? Few 4x4's ever stay in 4x4 for their whole lives. The wheels locking up during braking is not part of the 4x4 picture. All 4 wheels can lock up...

EDIT: Ninja'ed by TexasRebel. What he said.

Agreed. I actually used one if the sensors off of my 2wd hub because a cab fire burned the end of the wire on the 4wd axle. All bolt on and plug and play. Thanks in advance Texas rebel. I have a hunch that the bulb is in the dash. Even if it was, it wouldn't do me any good without tearing it apart to find the wires.

I got a 05 f250 2wd gonna convert to 4wd. I already got most of the parts and putting them on shouldn't be a problem. But what will I have to do to wire it up. My truck is a lariat and when I remove the part on the dash where the 4x4 switch goes there extra plugs there. Could my truck come pre wired for it already.

Your truck is probably pre wired for the switch. You also have a connection on the transfer case to tell the PCM when it is in 4x4 low.

From what I remember there is a wire that needs to go to the Transmission Control Module or Engine Control Module that tells the trans that its in 4wd. Something about shift points.
Mark was a great help to me answering even the most basic questions and giving me the confidence to keep going. Its been over a year now and despite all the negative posts about doing this conversion it worked out very good for me.
Now the 6.0 and the problems it brings with it is another thread entirely.

This is the part I need to figure out, last thing I want is to put everything in but it doesn't work. I need to figure the wiring with this.
