flex plate installation

Hi
The used flex plate I recieved for a 1956 F 100 272 YBlock came with 3 discs that match the bolt pattern for the crankshaft. My question is do these all go on the flexplate bolt side or does 1 or 2 go on the crankshaft side when installing the flexplate to the crank. The parts manual only shows 1 disc under the bolt heads.
Thanks

Not 100% familiar with the Y-block, but across the board with other ford engines, it should only use one of those discs. It's function is to pose as a washer to keep the bolt heads from digging into the flexplate when tightened and better help evenly secure the flexplate to the crank.

Now... if the P.O. was using the 'flywheel' bolts to secure the 'flexplate' they may have stacked up these discs to compensate for the longer 'flywheel' bolts. Use just one of the discs and see if the bolts are too long or not. If they are, get shorter ones, don't stack the discs.

A friend came up with an old motors manual - turns out those discs/spacers are used to set the alignment of the starter ring gear and the starter drive gear. There is a measurement one needs to make sure is correct and it is adjusted with the discs.
Thanks for your input on this one - had me stumped.
