My truck has the stock exhaust manifolds, and open y pipe
it sounds decently loud, but i want it louder
I want some headers for sure, and add flowmasters
My freind has this 68 f100 with a 390, it has headers and dual 40 series flowmasters
My god that thing is loud
So thats what im thinking of doing, but instead of having the flowmasters exit behind the tire, i want it in front of the rear tire
Is there any drawbacks in doing this?
I would want anything happening to my new 35's and thompson classic rims
Not sure if this is much help, but I just threw a pair of cherry bombs on mine (the old mufflers rusted off). Cost less than $150 to do it and it sounds pretty loud. Piped it back to the rear axle and straight down from that. No ability to post pics I'm afraid
I have a 77 f100 Flareside with a 302, hooker headers, cats, H-Pipe and dual 40 flowmasters. My exhaust comes out before the rear tire. I have no issues. The turbulence from going down the road sufficiently moves the exhaust past the wheels. My next step is to ceramic coat the exhaust. Hopefully I can get it up on the lift this weekend to take some more pics to post.
I run Hedman headers, 2.5-inch tubing, Moroso Spiral Flows, and a custom NASCAR-style exhaust tip exiting in front of the right rear wheel. No issues with heat.. the exhaust is beyond the bodyline in the air stream. Plus heat rises..:
The good thing about having the exhaust exit in front of the rear tires is that you don't get mud and road grime thrown onto the exhaust tip to rust it out as quick.
