ttb dana 50 question.

ok so i did ball joints tie rod ends draglink and brakes last week end.

after i pulled out the right side axle shaft i noticed the braket that holds the driver side axle housing to the cross member was cracked.

i torqued the bolts down but the holes are wallowed out.

i was told the only way to really fix the bracket is to go with the rancho 4in kit because it is a thicker bracket with differnt bolt holes.

Any input?

should i throw a factory ford part back on or do the lift and put a heavy duty braket on it?

From what i've been told on here I'd never lift a dana 50. You'll have a hard time getting it aligned correctly.

Nah. lifting a ttb is fine, as long as you do it right.

To each his own, but I don't agree. I listen to what Pete and Rodney have said in my thread. Experience.

I know lots of guys who have successfully done it.

Your better off lifting a solid axle.

To many guys out there have done **** TTB lifts and done it wrong, so they have had issues.

Yeah it will fit. Y ou just have to make sure you get the track bar and braket from the 350. If you can do a D60 swap, that would be your best bet in my opinion.

I just swapped that bracket 5 days ago. I wouldn't call adding a lift to the ttb fixing a problem. It may cause a whole new world of them. The one on there now lasted 17, 18 years. I'd either get a new one from Ford or a member here or do the D60 swap if you are able to.

I couldn't get to the nuts on the vertical bolts with the axle stub in place(mine was the bracket holding the passenger side). So I ended up taking the springs loose from the beam and pulling the outer stub from the inner stub and setting the whole damn passenger side beam on the ground. Then I was able to access the bolts. It's a 15mm head between the crossmember and oil pan that you have to hold. Don't cut them because you'll never get new ones in there.

Unfortunately for you, the driver's side beam has the diff in it and it is heavy. I did my bracket R&R and had a lovely assistant lay on the creeper and guide the stubs together while I tried to manhandle the hub/beam/axle assembly. It worked but took a lot of spit, grunts, and bad words. And get you an alignment afterwards.
