I have a Mustang II front end under my truck. The reason I went with it is the PO hacked the frame moving the steering box to try to make room for headers on the 289 and made it dangerous to drive. He incorporated a huge amount of bump steer into the front end. I had no choice but to swap it out.

There is nothing wrong with the axle itself, the problem was in the drag link and it's placement in front of the axle. I took the entire front axle (complete with good brakes, wheels cylinders and drums) off and have it sitting on my back patio. PM me if you are interested in any of the parts. I'll make you a good deal on them. I had done a brake job on the truck before parking it for several years in my garage waiting for money to do the modification.

Hey guys it has been a while. So I am sticking with the straight axle and adding disc brakes just so I can keep driving this bad boy for a while. Anyhow I have some other questions about modifications. I actually posted another thread related to it:

BACAGrizz what is the secret or how did you bring in your front bumper closer to the valance. I have thought long on how I would do this but before I cut I figured I would ask someone who has done it before. Any secrets, directions, guidance? Thanks

Does anyone even know where you can find a volare clip for sale? I am guessing this is why no one does the Volare clip install anymore....I couldn't find any for sale. Plenty of Nova and Camaro clips complete with wheels for about $150.00.

Be glad you couldn't find one! Parts are obsolete, handles and rides like a Yugo.
What happened to rebuilding the beam? It's a much better option than the Volare or the Nova and within your abilities and budget. You really need to decide what is the purpose of modifications and what will they improve, rather than listening to people telling you what's "cool" or what you "must" do. Putting in 40 year old parts and technology from 70's crapboxes is not improving anything.
Having two topics going is very confusing. Why don't you delete one of them since the info is duplicated and convoluted, people have started answering in one topic questions from the other.

Thanks for your service blackhawk!! I cant really answer any of your questions except for the one about the axle. My 53 f-350 is all stock and when I bought it everyone told me to do all these mods because it apparently would drive like a wagon. I personally dont think it rides bad, or handles that bad at all but im not doing over 50 and before we got snow on the ground I drove it every other day. I think you should just do what you need to to get it driving and have fun with it. Its your choice but in the end I think all of us have more fun driving them than workin on them. I kinda chuckled when you said you didnt want to spend to much on it, Thats the same thing I said about mine. It really is an obsession, but as long as you are havin fun. Good luck and and have fun you deserve it.

I thinking Blackhawk has left the building, but I will throw in my opinion on the Volare IFS based on 7+ years of driving one in my 53.

If you want a car ride this is it. They ride soft and also handle acceptably. Not a sports car by any means, but neither is any straight axle truck I have ever driven including 200X models. Think rear wheel drive LTD, Impala, Cordoba with 80K on the odometer. That is what you will get if you install it correctly. It is nothing like a Yugo, Vega, Pinto or any other P.O.S. car. You can drive the car with one finger on the wheel, the Chrysler pump is a little strong for my Ford PS box.

That said, parts are very tough to find now. Very glad I did it then, probably wouldn't do it right now. The above is just my opinion, but it is based on actually owning and driving one. Everyone who rides in my truck comments favorably about how it doesn't feel like an old truck. Not a selling point for some of you, and I respect that. My next project will be an old truck. I likely won't be driving it every day either. To each his own.
