What Do I Have ?
It is a 1976 F250 Super Cab with the following equipment;
- 460 4bbl
- C6
- Dana rear end
- dual tanks
- dual batteries and wiring setups
- jump seats in back
- 12x16.5 rear wheels, 6x16.5 front
- Race track body trim
- Custom Logo on glovebox
- Ford Factory Cap
- Slider rear window
- Ranger Logo's
- 2 tone paint (brown and gold)
- Factory Hydraulic trailer brake setup
- factory 7 pin wiring to back bumper including additional back up lights in bumper
All of this came from the factory. Is it just a regular truck optioned out of the whaazoo or is it something different. I remember reading once about factory hotrodded towing chase trucks. Is this possibly what I have, not that it would make any difference, I am just interested.

sounds like an interesting combo.
Usually the super wide rear wheels are associated with the 9900 GVWR. but those are usually 350's
the 7 pin harness should be part of the HD towing package, which also comes with the swing out low mount western mirrors.
Post up a pic! we all like truck ****!
i'm sidin' with PapaBear .. i'm sayin' Trailer Special ... but ive been wrong a time or two.
as to the trim, it sounds like a Ranger that is wearing the Glove box door out of a Custom.... again, just a guess.
Here is a picture of it without the trim. I need to put the trim back on this year.
Thanks for the help as it has always bugged me as to what it was built as.

Did you know that you have a genuine Ford camper shell? The roof contour and the compass emblems on the sides in front of the windows are the dead give-away's.
But, did you know that Race Track (R/T) mouldings were not available until 1977? Your truck does not have R/T's, what I see are the wide upper side mouldings with vinyl inserts.
These mouldings were standard equipment on 1973/76 Ranger XLT's. 1977/79 Ranger XLT's and 1978/79 Lariats came with R/T mouldings.
The vinyl insert mouldings on the fenders, cab were also used with R/T's, but the R/T upper quarter panel (bed) vinyl insert mouldings are different.
These mouldings have an extension which allows the R/T's vertical mouldings (D7TZ-9929396-AA right / D7TZ-9929397-AA left) to connect to the lower R/T mouldings.
R/T mouldings were also available on 1978/79 Bronco's.
, they aren't. I am leaning towards it being a Trailer Special, but none of the mouldings say that it was an XLT, just straight plain Ranger mouldings.Yes I did know its a Ford Cap. It still has the actual Ford stickers inside and the Explorer Compass Mouldings. It will stay on the truck as it has always been on the truck.
The truck also has an underhood light, if that means anything.
In my mind, I will think of it as an optioned out almost Trailer Special, even though there are no mouldings that refer to it as one. Unless somebody else has an idea.
Thanks for the help so far.
Eric
