This is my first post here, sorry if I have a noob question.
We recently got a '74 F-250, partly a toy for me and partly my son's vehicle to drive.
He has told me a couple of times that the e-brake releases without warning. Today it happened when he was outside the truck so he had some fun unlocking the truck and stopping it before it really got rolling.
I reminded him to park the truck in a high gear ... but still, I am wondering if this is a common problem and what the fix may be.
Maybe a worn pawl and/or a fatigued spring in the e-brakes ratcheting mechanism is allowing the pedal to disengage itself....my e-brake hasn't worked in nearly a decade, i've never actually taken the time to check it out.
try taking the whole pedal assy out and giving it a good degreasing/lube. I had one in another truck that the little part that hooks would get gummed up and not do what it's supposed to.
