Or one real and one ghost bidder. All the auto auctions shown on TV employ ghost bidders to get the bidding up over the reserve. They even tell you that they do this in their bidders agreement.
eBay says they don't allow that but I wonder about it.

I don't know how they can legally get away with shill bidding at the car auctions. It's a federal crime to do it at local live auctions. eBay supposely had stern rules against it but I suppose it will help if one gets caught.
I wish, the last couple of times I place an old truck part on eBay they got one or two bids and sold, IMO, cheap. I start my auctions at a price I feel is low but something I can live with and hope they get bid up. 3-4 years ago everything seemed to sell but it's gotten slow, at least for my stuff. I have a whole mezzanine of car and truck parts but I'm waiting until the market looks like it's getting strong again.
He could have bought a couple of sets of these hubcaps. I would agree if this was a rare original part that is seldom seen and the pictures were reused. But since these were mass produced he could have bought a truck load and is just selling them off. He could have also just wanted to relist them if the high bidder decided to back out of the deal. Also, if only two guys were going nuts on the bidding maybe the second guy looked back on the bidding history and saw he and the high bidder started going against each other at a much lower price and decided he wait and start bidding all over again to try to get them at a substantially lower price. There are many facts none of know about what went on with this sale.
Be careful of calling someone a cheat unless you know all the facts.
I agree with Bob. That guy's 99.8% feedback rating (with almost two thousand feedbacks) reads like a who's who of early Ford parts. I'd bet he's got more than one set of those hubcaps, and he's being smart and only auctioning one at a time.
Jon, yes it's a relist but how do you know he didn't just use the relist feature to list another set? If you back to his completed auction at the top it's stated:
Bidding has ended on this item. The seller has relisted this item or one like this.
I used the relist feature a couple of times when I listed another similiar item previously to save time, I've changed the images to reflect the new item but kept the wording and all information I had from the previous listing. This guy is selling a new, never used item so it really doesn't matter that he didn't post new pictures as long as they are the same.
I just don't see anything really suspicious about this guy, also like Doc said, he has sold a lot of stuff with a good feed back rating.
Bob, were you on the watch list like I was and received an email from ebay about this item or did you click on the ended item. Information is generic on a closed item, emails are more detailed.
No, I was not on the watch list for this item, just clicked on the links above. I do get emails for other items I am watching but don't look at anything other than the current price.
My email said this same item was relisted, usually there is a reason for the relisting, he declined. I have sold a ton of stuff on ebay and if someone shafts me on an item I go thru the ebay channels, not just relist it the next day, especially now that the buyer can give you bad feedback NOT THE SELLER. They did away with that feature a year or so ago. Or better yet offer the second bidder (which was a few buck close to the closing cost) the item. When an item closes and then is relisted right away without comments from either party the the really deal looks rank. I was looking at buying a classic Chrysler a few years ago and I watched it close (sell) a few times and relisted. Never any bad comments. I told ebay about it and they removed the user, never saw it listed again.
Its good that we have this forum Bob, I remember one of your old postings which talked about hubcaps for $35, thats how I knew these were over priced.
John, again, if the seller had another set all he might have done is hit the relist button to save time. You would still have gotten the email notice that stated it had be relisted.
Hey John. Instead of sitting here slinging insults and assumptions about that guy's auction, why don't you just pick up the phone and call the guy. He listed his telephone number right there in the description. Let him explain to you why the item got "re-listed". That guy even has an interactive map on his auctions that shows his selling history all around the world. Go ahead, call him.
Just providing some insite to those that may not have been on that watch list or know about shill bidders. Ghost bidders was already mentioned on this thread.
